Only Dead Fish Swim with the Stream

The night is misty. Two people meet at a coffee house. Previously, they have exchanged only emails, and there is a cautious hint of anticipation in the air. They recognize each other from pictures. The man makes a casual comment about the weather, and the woman replies in kind. They order beverages. The conversation begins a bit haltingly, but soon turns to deeper subjects of life and philosophy. Soon, both are enrapt in the connection. He repeatedly notices her winsome eyes. A bit later on, both have lost all sense of time in the unity of their shared talk. Man and woman are amazed at both what they have in common, and awareness of the delicious differences. Statled by a small commotion in a far corner of the shop, the man and woman become aware of the late hour, and each needs to return home, though neither want to. He walks her to her car. After a bit of embarassed silence, both agree that another meeting is in order, thinking to themselves that indeed, it is necessary. They agree on a dinner at a quite cafe in a few days. As each returns home, they are left with the lingering memory of a delightful meeting, and of conversation eclipsing all other concerns. Both dream in anticipation of the possiblities to come.
